There is no doubt that the battles will be fierce this weekend as the NMRA rolls into the next-to-last points race of the 2011 tour. While there are a few classes that are all but locked up for the 2011 championship, there are still many that have less than a 250 point spread. Stay tuned to Stang TV for all the same-day coverage from Columbus.

Special thanks to our event coverage sponsor SCT Performance. Check out their fine line of tuners at www.sctflash.com.

Although he currently leads the points chase in BFGoodrich Tires Factory Stock, Carlos Sobrino isn't one to rest. Since the last race, he's put together a completely new chassis, retiring his old Trooper car in favor of this new machine. "It's time for a real race car in Factory Stock, and Trooper has been good to me. She'll go back on the street with a new twin-turbo engine I have, but this car should be a definite upgrade," he explained.

Multi-time Blow-By Racing EFI Renegade champion Brian Mitchell has been on fire so far this season. Out of five races, he's been in four finals, and has a healthy points lead over second-place racer Alton Clements. However, Clements still has a chance to catch and overtake Mitchell for the championship, with Bowling Green slated to be a double-points race. "He's got a chance to catch me, but it's going to be hard. My car has been a machine all year long, and I haven't changed a thing because it's running so well. The other day I decided that I was going to check out the BigStuff, and that's when I realized I haven't made a single change in the program since the first round of qualifying in Bradenton earlier this year," Mitchell says. That's consistency!

Racing at the end of summer in Midwestern heat is never easy, and Jason Lee usually has a good handle on the conditions. Today, during the test and tune session, he annihilated the track on his first hit, giving him plenty ot think about before his next shot at the track. He has scienced out his ProCharged combination over the last several years, and currently enjoys a hefty points lead in the AFCO Drag Radial class.

Charlie Booze, Jr. has been taking advantage of the Edelbrock Hot Street class since 2002, and he has his work cut out for him this weekend. With former champ Robbie Blankenship's 8.62 sitting atop the ladder after the first round of qualifying, Booze has seven hundredths to find before eliminations start.

Robbie Blankenship doing morning maintenance on his Edelbrock Hot Streeter. Right now he is sitting atop the qualifying sheet with a stout 8.62, a nice number for the conditions. "We have to check everything on these cars every day, especially the valvesprings. With the RPM we turn in this car they are always on the edge," he explained.

The two-man gang of Kenjo Kelley and Kenjo Kelley (his son) are here all the way from Brazoria, Texas, to compete in the Super Street Outlaw class. His second qualifying pass got loose at half-track, where he had to lift to an off-pace 9.25.

Bruce Hemminger maintained his lead in the Real Street class through the last qualifying session. His nitrous combination excels in heat like we had today, as he tops the ladder with with a 9.41 - three tenths ahead of Jim Breese's 9.72. With tomorrow's forecast, Hemminger should be able to maintain that advantage easily.

Final qualifying sheets and ladders are now posted. For more details, click the link in the top post of this thread.

We caught up with Kenjo Kelley in the pits to talk about his wild ride yesterday at the end of qualifying. "The chute didn't open in time and I ended up in the gravel. It wasn't a fun ride, but we got the car back here, cleaned all of the gravel out from under it, and we're ready to go for this morning," he said. He and son Kenjo were hard at work getting ready when we spoke to him.

The first round of Super Street Outlaw found Chris Tuten in the beams against Kenjo Kelley, who he had covered by nearly three tenths. A broken crankshaft just off the line ended Tuten's chances of picking up points on leader John Urist.

Phil Hines was supposed to face off against Kenjo Kelley in the semis, but Kelley was unable to get his car fired up. Hines held up and gave Kelley every chance to get fired up, until he was finally given the signal from the starter that the race had become a single. Class act by Phil!
