So far the Sixth Annual Nitto Tire NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing has gotten off to a stellar start. With great air and a track to match, the elapsed times were dropping like flies

In ProCharger Super Street Outlaw action, John Kolivas made a killer first-round 7.05-second pass, which not only eclipsed the class record of 7.11 seconds, but also set the bar for True Ten-Five racers everywhere, as that is to our knowledge, the quickest pass ever recorded in the quarter-mile on a 28x10.5-inch tire. With the 7.0-second and 200 mph barriers eclipsed, will we see a six?

Multi-time champion Mike Murillo put the combined NMRA Turbosmart Pro Outlaw 10.5 and NMCA Mickey Thompson Super Street field on notice by unleashing a demonic 6.66-second pass in the first round to set the quick-E.T. In the late-night second round, Murillo took advantage of the cool night air an bettered his run, carding a 6.63 at over 222 mph.

“The Rockstar” John Leslie, Jr. finally got his ten-second timeslip in BFGoodrich Tires Factory Stock competition. However, he didn’t run a 10.90 – rather he just skipped right into the 10.80s with a 10.88 at 123.50, showing that his hard work has paid off. That pass makes him the quickest Factory Stock driver ever to take the tree.

We haven’t seen Dan Baumann in a while, but he is back with a vengeance. Piloting “Uncle Robin” Lawrence’s former Steeda Real Street ride, Baumann cracked off an insane 9.18-second pass at over 147 miles per hour. That is the quickest pass ever to be recorded in Real Street history. Remember what we said about the great air and the great track?
